Blackpool South MP and Shadow Minister Gordon Marsden has launched a campaign in the town to save the funding for vital NHS services and life changing operations. Gordon's campaign is being launched as an urgent response to the Government's Health and Social Care Bill currently going through Parliament.

Gordon said: 'The NHS has always been a high priority for me and I have campaigned for increased funding and improvements in the town's NHS provision.  The new Health Centres and Victoria Hospital's cardiac unit are good examples of the way in which the previous government demonstrated its committment to the NHS here in Blackpool.

‘But now the eighteen week guarantee has is nolonger in and I am concerned that Blackpool could lose several £million of its NHS funding in the process.  Blackpool has above average numbers of older and disabled people and I am very concerned that waiting times for vital operations such as knees, hips and cataracts are continuing to rise. Increased waiting times may force people into private health care paying for surgery that they cannot afford.

'That's why I urge you to sign my petition and help me campaign to secure the future of the NHS for the people of Blackpool.'
