New Mind Centre An Important Support, Gordon Says

Gordon has officially opened the new Blackpool office of Lancashire Mind to the resort at their new premises based on Cookson Street at their official opening.

Mind has had a longstanding presence in Blackpool for many years in Dickson Road and the new premises at Cookson Street will act as an advice and drop in centre for Lancashire Mind, focusing on mental health problems.

Gordon said, “I am delighted that Lancashire Mind has launched this new office in Blackpool and it’s very timely for Mind to have a presence in our town. I have always supported mental health facilities a Blackpool South’s MP and will give the new office my strong support.”

“Figures show that one in four people will suffer from mental health problems sometime in their life and services such as Mind help them as well as their families at very difficult times.”

Margaret Wilson, Blackpool’s Service Development Manager for Mind said, (as reported in the Gazette) “It is tremendously important that people know we are here offering this service. Things were uncertain when we closed in January 2010 but since the merging to become Lancashire Mind we can look into providing lots of other services in the future.”

Gordon added, “The Outreach facilities and support that Mind has now made available to residents in Blackpool are essential to the town. Public health issues and support are crucial for us in Blackpool. This is not just because of the strong element of population movement both into and around the town which often leaves people without other support if they experience depression and other mental health issues. It’s also because of the pressures many are experiencing at a time of economic uncertainty, pressure on home life and social care. The new Mind gives them somewhere to go that can give them the support they need. I would like to praise Lancashire Mind for setting up this new centre at a time when money is tight.”
