Latest: Government Blocks Plans To Build On Moss
The Government has blocked Blackpool Council from approving Kensington's Second planning application to build on Marton Moss without further reference to the Secretary of State.
A letter has gone to the council asking them to send full details of the application, objections and the council's appraisal of the issues. It 'directs your council not to grant permission on the application...Without special authorisation.'
'The fact that the Government is now currently blocking Kensington's latest application just shows how weak and unsuitable the proposals for large scale building on the Moss are. This is the second time the government has felt compelled to intervene on these applications and this announcement follows the controversy over the £10,000 donation made by Kensington to the Blackpool South Conservative Party and continued opposition by local residents to plans on build on the Moss. It underlines just how substantial the concerns are about the Council's obsession with major building on such an important green field site in Blackpool.' Gordon commented.
"Any further examination of Kensington’s plans will once again draw attention to the many reasons cited both by myself and concerned local groups such as Save the Moss. This application is unsuitable for Blackpool; we should be focusing on the improvement and development of housing stock within the town as part of our central regeneration strategy for Blackpool.’
