Gordon Works With Residents In Bloomfield
Gordon has carried on working closely with residents and hoteliers on clean-up issues around Tyldesley Road – finally getting progress on some of the ‘at-risk’ buildings and HMOs there and in neighbouring streets. Gordon has taken up issues about street alcohol, toilet provision and CCTV raised at the Bloomfield PACT meetings. Gordon said, “It’s been heartening to see the upsurge in community pride – the St. Peter’s Centenary celebrations, the launch of Bloomfield’s Oral history project and the summer party by Bloomfield East residents – three of the events I’ve been pleased to join in with.”
Over recent months Gordon and his office staff have also been dealing with an ongoing case regarding parking on St. Bedes Avenue. Residents in the area have had problems with shoppers taking up the limited amount of parking spaces on the road, making it very difficult for local residents to find a parking space next to their homes. I have contacted the local council regarding these issues and attempted to prompt a solution in order to bring all parties a satisfactory outcome. Meetings are ongoing with local residents and the council and I intend to use my influence to voice the concerns of my constituents throughout ongoing consultations with the council.
Bloomfield ward – and not least the area around the football club is also affected by some of the changes in and around the Waterloo Road area. The side effects of regeneration can particularly affect existing small businesses, hotels and guest houses in the area – many of whom are also local residents. Gordon took up the cudgels earlier in the year on behalf of people in and around Lonsdale Road whose access and business was being affected by the overrun of works by the Council on and around the car park – Gordon’s meetings with Council officers, getting them to a public meeting to explain the problems and delays. Gordon said, “We finally got there but better information in the first place would have helped. I also joined hoteliers and residents from Yorkshire Street and other areas alongside your councillors in the summer when we grilled Council and ReBlackpool officers about the Foxhall and South Beach regeneration proposals. Again I and my office try to ensure people are kept in the picture from the Council – you and your voices to be heard and to influence things.”
