Gordon welcomes new £1 Bonds Protection
GORDON WELCOMES NEW £1 BONDS PROTECTION FOR TRAVELLERS
Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden has welcomed new Government
regulations which will reform bonding safeguards for holidaymakers and travellers.
Mr. Marsden has previously backed ABTA and ATOL proposals for a pooled
‘£1 per passenger’ levy payable by tour operators to safeguard
the consumer buying separate holiday and travel elements. The Government has now
announced they are confirming the Civil Aviation Authority’s proposals on
this, giving passengers the new protection from April 2008.
Mr Marsden
commented, “I’m very pleased at this sensible reform which should give
greater security for travellers in a more complex marketplace with internet and other
booking methods. The £1 levy is a sensible scheme but in addition there is no
change in the financial protection available to package holiday buyers. They will be
entitled to a full refund if their travel organiser becomes insolvent before they travel,
and assistance with returning home if already abroad.”
He continued “I’m glad Government has listened to those of us who have
backed ABTA and ATOL on this new and sensible scheme.”
