Gordon Welcomes Move To Regulate Wheel Clampers
Gordon is supporting moves by the Government to regulate wheel clampers by the introduction of an independent tribunal system for the public to appeal to if they feel they have been unfairly clamped. The proposal is included as an amendment to the Crime and Security Bill.
Commenting on the news, Gordon said 'I know from the numerous complaints I have taken up on behalf of constituents and visitors to Blackpool the problem posed by rogue wheel clampers. It is time we cracked down on these companies and the excessive charges they issue to motorists.
I’m delighted to hear the Government’s amendment on this issue as it follows up on representations I have made to the minister responsible, setting up the Security Industry Authority which I lobbied for strongly.
People have the right to be treated fairly and not be subjected to pressure and harassment from rogue clampers, with no fixed offices, dubious methods and outrageous so called fines. I will press for Blackpool residents and visitors alike to have this right of appeal set up under this tribunal as soon as is legislatively possible.’
The amendment to the Crime and Security Bill aims to set out an independent appeals process. If a motorist is unhappy with the company they have dealt with, they can appeal to the tribunal. The Crime and Security Bill is currently passing through Parliament.
