Gordon Urges 'Heed What Highfield Students Say'

Gordon has taken the views of Highfield Humanities College students right to Education Secretary Michael Gove’s desk – by personally handing in over 600 individual letters and emails from them urging him to let the school’s BSF bid go ahead at his Department of Education office next door to Parliament.

Speaking after an official from Mr Gove’s private office had taken charge of the three folders containing all the letters Gordon said, ‘It’s a testament to the determination of the school’s students, staff and parents that the Government should listen and act to keep their Building Schools for the Future Bid. The students have individually written these 600 plus letters covering every section of the school from Year 6 in less than three days. They’ve articulated all the needs for the development – and not least the aging buildings and facilities – some of them nearly 70 years old – that Granada TV crew vividly illustrated when they came to the school last Friday to interview students, myself, head teacher and staff.’

‘In my cover note to Michael Gove with the letters - on top of the detailed letter I sent to him last week putting the case for Highfield’s BSF bid – I’ve emphasised that effort. He needs now I hope to look carefully at the final line ‘please heed what they – the students say and let Highfield’s BSF bid go ahead’!
