Gordon Starts Campaign to stop BT Charges
Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden is backing
a parliamentary campaign to stop companies like British Telecom from penalising
customers who do not pay with direct debit.
Mr. Marsden commented
“The covert charges being brought about by these companies are shameful.
I am extremely concerned for my constituents as the hidden charges for those who
choose not to pay through direct debit mean some may be taken advantage of.
Mr. Marsden continued “Blackpool has a disproportionately high number
of elderly, disabled, and vulnerable citizens and I do not want them to be exploited.
I have always strongly opposed these hidden charges and have pressured BT to
look again at this issue.”
This year, BT alone has raised the
price of services for those choosing not to pay by direct debit anywhere from 50p
to £1.50 per month.
