Gordon Launches His 'Young Local Heroes' Awards

12 to 19 year olds in Blackpool South who have helped people in the community have an opportunity of recognition under a new Young Local Heroes award scheme now underway.

The recognition scheme builds on the existing all-age Local Heroes Awards in the area sponsored by Gordon – the latest annual citations awards for which were presented recently by the mayor in a ceremony at the Town Hall. The new scheme which is being backed by Blackpool Community Trust – Blackpool FC’s charitable arm – is inviting nominations for young people across the area who have in the words of Gordon ‘made a difference to the people and neighbourhoods in which they live.’

Gordon said, "I know and have said numerous times – that young people across Blackpool have a splendid record in volunteering, caring, charitable and other community activities. This is an excellent modest way on the back of existing Local Heroes awards to recognise and highlight those contributions – so I’m delighted we now have this additional initiative underway."

Nominations for the first citations are invited as soon as possible which will be awarded shortly so please collect your Young Local Heroes leaflet which can be downloaded by clicking the link on the left of this page, or you can pick one up from Gordon's Blackpool Office at 304 Highfield Road.
