Gordon Has Backed The Shopworkers Call For Respect
Gordon met staff from Boots in Blackpool with local USDAW representative Jane Rogers raising awareness of the Union’s Freedom From Fear Campaign to protect shop workers.
Gordon was able to meet with staff at Boots in the Hounds Hill Shopping Centre and listen to their experiences and listen to how the company supports them in handling certain scenarios with difficult customers.
Gordon said, “I was interested to find out for staff and managers the ways in which difficult customers should be handled and the importance of training was strongly highlighted when it comes to dealing with these scenarios. It’s all about finding the right people for the right job and some staff feel more comfortable in other roles than dealing face to face the customers on the checkouts and it is up to the company to find their employee’s strengths.”
“I discussed with the store manager about the level of assertiveness when it comes to handling difficult customers and the ways in which the company train staff to diffuse these situations. Usdaw’s campaign will bring awareness of the risks involved with working in customer service environments and make other companies aware of the training that their staff need to keep them safe in the work place.”
