Gordon Gets Inside View On Apprenticeships

Gordon visited Training 2000’s Blackburn site on Thursday 19th January 2012 meeting some of the region’s young apprentices.

Gordon in his role as Shadow Minister for Further Education, Skills and Regional Growth is backing a Government push to raise awareness about Apprenticeships and Group Training Associations (GTAs), of which Training 2000 is one of the largest in England.

Originally established in the 1960s, a GTA is a training provider governed by representatives of employers and whose curriculum is centred around Apprenticeships in engineering, construction and manufacturing.

Gordon met with staff and around 50 apprentices, after which he was taken on a tour of the facilities followed by a question and answer session with learners.

Gordon said, “It was great to see first hand how Apprenticeships are making a difference to young people’s lives and to see the enthusiasm the learners have for their courses and chosen fields of work.”

“Training 2000 delivers outstanding work and I believe it is essential that the Government helps secure increased funding for GTAs, which is why I am committed to promoting the benefits of Apprenticeships as a route to employment.”
