Gordon Celebrates Blackpool Legion Poppython
Gordon joined the audience of members and visitors at Blackpool’s British Legion 20th Poppython – the annual six-hour extravaganza of singers and variety acts at the King Street club which has raised over £100,000 for the Royal British Legion in the past twenty years.
That achievement has now been officially recognised in Parliament - with a motion on the House of Commons order paper tabled by Gordon and backed by fellow Blackpool MP Joan Humble and other MPs congratulating all the artists and volunteers and staff from the Blackpool British Legion Club and Poppython organiser Ian Coleman for their tireless work for this and other fundraising events for the Poppy Appeal in Blackpool.
After his visit to the Club’s Poppython with Joan, Gordon, who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Veterans Group – of which Joan Humble is also an officer – said “it was as always a great occasion – the club packed with friends and supporters of an event which gives great pleasure, celebrates the bravery and service of our armed forces and which has raised this impressive six-figure sum over twenty years – with Ian Coleman’s tireless work and that of many others. I’m glad that we have been able to mark the 20th anniversary with this token of national recognition in Parliament which underlines yet again how Blackpool has been at the forefront of supporting our veterans and servicemen and women.”
