Gordon Backs Residents Over Tesco Plans
Gordon has written to the local Council backing the objections put forward by local residents on the proposal to allow a Tesco to be built on the Windmill Public House site.
The proposal to allow Tesco to build one of their supermarkets on the Windmill Public House site has now been submitted as a formal application and is due to come before the Development Committee next month. The application has concerned local residents and traders who have put together a petition against the plans and have obtained hundreds of signatures.
Gordon commented “This development could significantly destabilise a thriving and well-supported local shopping area.”
“If it was felt there was a need for these facilities in an area that requires extra provisions for the local residents then I would support it. However, these proposals would drastically harm local businesses on a high street that has all the facilities it needs. The plans for a Tesco in this area have the potential to suck the life out of a successful subsidising high street area and increase traffic congestion in what is already a tight road network.”
Gordon has informed the Head of Development control Ian Ward at Blackpool Council of his objections and has requested that they be forwarded to Committee members as soon as possible.
