Gordon Backs Campaign Against BT Charges

Gordon has today added his backing to a parliamentary motion calling for BT to halt its practice of applying additional charges for its customers who don’t pay their bill via direct debit.

‘I have been a longstanding opponent to the charges BT and some other utility providers apply to those who don’t pay their bill via direct debit. In this current economic climate it is simply unfair to charge customers simply for paying their bill via a certain method and often penalizes older people and those without formal bank accounts.’ Mr Marsden commented.

‘From my previous work on this issue helping constituents in Blackpool, I have seen that many of the people penalized by this are those that can afford it least. I have always strongly opposed these hidden charges and will be pressuring BT to look again at this issue.’

Mr Marsden has been a long standing opponent to the additional charges BT and some other utility providers have applied to their bills, signing several Parliamentary motions on the issue in the last few years and working on behalf of many constituents who have been affected by the charges on their bills. BT currently charges £1.50 a month to customers who don’t pay via direct debit.
