Gordon Backs Blackpool Volunteers
Gordon has praised the work of Blackpool Volunteers at a visit to their Stanley Park Centre during Volunteers Week.
Volunteers Week is an annual event celebrating the work done by millions of volunteers across the country. Gordon joined a wide range of volunteers at South Lodge along with the new Mayor Councillor Sylvia Taylor to present awards to those who have fully committed to volunteering in Blackpool.
Gordon said, “The work done by volunteers in Blackpool is to be highly admired and Volunteers Week gives us the opportunity to highlight the excellent work they do in our town.”
“Blackpool Volunteers Centre has been involved with so many different projects across our town from training new volunteers to building on our heritage in Blackpool.”
“What they do – and what countless volunteers across Blackpool do – is the real contribution to the “Big Society” – not just Government Ministers’ sound bites.”
“Blackpool consistently scores in the top ten of communities countrywide for charitable giving and volunteering by young and old. I will continue to support groups such as Stanley Park volunteers as they bid for lottery funding and the support Government should be giving them – alongside that which they have consistently had from Blackpool Council.”
