Gordon Backs Apprenticeships
Gordon has backed the continued success of apprentices in Blackpool during his visit last week to the Pleasure Beach, as part of National Apprenticeship week.
Gordon toured the Pleasure Beach to see the various young people participating in the scheme at work around the site, including Scott Taylor, 18, an apprentice engineer.
Gordon commented ‘As a long standing supporter of apprenticeships, I think it really is great the Pleasure Beach is committed to an extended programme over a four year period It’s exactly the sort of scheme we like to see in Government and I have been advocating. I think what’s particularly good is the extensive agenda of work and the way Scott and the other apprentices fit in
Apprentices have a key part to play in the regeneration of Blackpool and the economy nationally.
With the mixture of theory and practical work, apprentices are doing courses as sophisticated and intense as traditional academic courses.’
In his role on the Innovation, Universities and Skills select committee, Gordon consistently advocated a wider role for apprenticeships to benefit young people and to improve the skills base both in Blackpool and nationally.
The Blackpool Gazette and Beneast Training have recently launched a campaign to get 100 apprentices into work in Blackpool in 100 days as part of their Future Generations campaign. To see more details, visit their website.
