Gordon's Dismay at Moss Decision

Gordon has spoken out against the Council's approval of Kensington Development's plans to build almost 600 houses on Marton Moss despite widespread public opposition to the plan.

Gordon, who attended the Council's planning committee meeting where the plans were narrowly approved called the decision a 'disgrace' but vowed to fight on against the plans which he has consistently opposed since an initial version was first announced in late 2008.

After the meeting, Gordon commented 'What happened at the planning meeting was a complete travesty of the planning process, there is no rhyme or reason in approving proposals which are unchanged from the ones the Council said oprigianlly they would not approve.

As I have repeatedly stated the priority should be the rejuvenation of our existing housing stock within the town centre which will help stimulate our regeneration, not developments on Blackpool's periphery and on one of our few remaining green spaces.

The impressive turnout at the meeting once again demonstrated the extent of public opposition to the plan yet the Council appears to have not taken these views into account.

Many questions also remain unanswered in regards to the application's approval being justified by the yet unapproved Core Strategy, which has received no real public consultation. I intend to take this further along with the residents and I think there are grounds for refusal by the Government Office North West.'
